Welcome back to Tea Break With life, it has been long since my previous blog on activism and I have been searching for my motivation to write. The hectic/busy few weeks combined with lack of clarity on what to write about, lead to this long gap without publishing a blog post. Now a series of events and experiences over the past few weeks gave me the idea to write on something which I feel is very important for the times we live in. Now the whole question of searching for yourself is mostly seen as being associated with something spiritual, there is no doubt that it is associated but that is just one way of looking at the whole subject. This Blog is going to be looking at purpose of life and try to figure out an answer for the question, if your life is a choice or destiny. This blog will also try to analyse the reason for growing cases of depression among people in our modern world. In short this blog will look at the path of transforming oneself for the ultimate transformation of the society as discussed in the previous blog on Activism.
Possession of material riches ,without inner peace , is like dying of thirst while bathing in a lake
-Paramahamsa Yogananda
The big question to ask oneself is, have you been doing what you really want to? Most of the times what we see in the modern world is people either running behind material riches or doing things that they don't actually want to be doing, but still keep doing it in-order to be in the crowd. The big question on this matter is whether it is necessary to do what your peers do to stay a part of the crowd? And the simple answer is NO. The most effective key to being happy is being 'yourself'. It is always welcome to make good changes to yourself but don't ever change for the sake of doing so and in the process loose yourself. Every time before you do something , take a second off and ask yourself the question: do you really need this? I assure you that this will reduce the mistakes you ever make by a huge margin, because in truth there is no better person to judge something than you yourself. This is a simple yet really powerful technique I have come across. After my last blog where I had criticized people running after placements forgetting their duties towards the society, I was asked by many if I am against making wealth ? The truth is I am not, but running behind material wealth thinking that shall deliver you happiness is nothing but absolute foolishness. The big problem people of the modern world have is the fact that they seem to be connecting happiness with material possessions. Indeed material riches may be a factor in determining the experiences and which in turn maybe making a person happy. But the fact to be understood here is that happiness in itself is a state of mind and not something we get to buy. This lack of understanding is a primary reason for people even committing suicides for not getting what they wanted, which is something we shall be looking as the blog progresses.
The journey of searching yourself is beautiful and at the same time a tough one to embark on. It is beautiful in the sense that once you start to live the life your inner being wants to, suddenly life becomes a celebration in itself. On the flip side it is equally tough one as you shall be seen as someone different from the herd. The reason I say people must embark on this journey is because unless you actually understand what you want to do, life is meaningless. The greatest understanding is that happiness is the requirement of all humans and it is not found in material pursuits, on the contrary is found in love, compassion and sharing.
In short the journey of searching yourself can be summed up to 2 main points which are :
1)Being a seeker and trying to understand something from everything and everybody
2) Listening to what your inner being wants you to be.
The search of oneself may have many deeper meanings in the context of spirituality, which is something we are not going to look into as it is outside our topic here.
These days we read and hear about incidents where students commit suicides for reasons such as not clearing an entrance or not getting something that they wanted to. I feel speechless listening to these kind of news and many times have thought of writing on the same and later deleted my posts. Today I feel it is time for me to talk on this issue. Now the major reasons I see for such happenings is the wrong understanding of life and lack of emotional support. People may think it is being weak when you share your problem with someone instead of dealing it within you, but I completely disagree. The truth is it takes more courage to accept your mistakes and share your problems with someone than keeping it to yourself. It makes me angry and sad at the same time that on one side we have students committing suicide for failing an entrance while on the other we have children born in utter poverty still fighting to live. Everyone reading this please realize that when you have a problem fight it like a warrior and not run away from it. In life sorrow cannot be avoided but it can be shared and the next time you see someone sad give them a helping hand, you might well be saving a life. Failing in an entrance or being rejected for a US visa are not the ending of the world, actually it does't matter at all.The next time you have a problem in your life always remember the faces of people who you love, your childhood, the happy memories etc. Then look at your problem and tell yourself it's time to fight for everything you love and stand for. Always remember a problem that you consider today will seem something silly years later, it is essential to live through them to reach the maturity to look back and laugh at it. For an 8-9 year old sleeping alone was a huge problem, similarly problems of today will sound silly tomorrow.
The sad part of people committing suicides is that it is hurting not just them but also the ones who love them more than themselves.
Greatest of all feelings is when you earn respect for yourself and that only happens when you are truly giving your 100%. This theory has always fascinated me because it is 100% true that unless you have done everything right your inner self and mind will keep shouting the wrong you had done , and making it even more fascinating is the fact that people still commit mistakes! But try this once and see the feeling of self satisfaction when your mind and self accepts that you did a good job.
The best way to be a master of the art of happiness is by being who you are and not trying to be something others want you to become.
I have been lucky over the last few months where I had the chance to meet some really interesting people who are much younger to me and were really doing what their hearts told them to do. They are real change-makers and to be honest they made me feel what have I done other than a lot of talk!! Jokes apart, the bigger lesson I learned from them is that age is not a barrier when you have the heart to do it.
Now the big question of whether all this is a choice or destiny ?
Life is a combination of both , your choices today build your destiny for tomorrow. In-order to make the right choices it is necessary to understand what you want and for that the journey of understanding yourself is essential.
To sum up the whole idea I am trying to convey :
Embark on the journey of searching yourself , make the right choices, build your destiny, see failure as an opportunity, running away is a coward's solution and finally build your world with love and compassion beginning the transformation of the world to what it is actually supposed to be!
Let us begin the revolution of love through self transformation!
You my friend, Yes you who has been reading this till now, you are the beginning of change , have a smile on your face and let us together build the world we wish to see !
Always have an open heart and I assure you help and love shall always come from different places......
The Revolution of Love shall Win !
Thank You !
